Wayland multi-touch gets touchpad support

Posted by Rob Zwetsloot

Next generation display server Wayland now properly integrates multi-touch touchpads thanks to libinput

Wayland is still very much under heavy development; while it may not be replacing X.org any time soon as the primary display server of Linux distros, it won’t be too long before the first wave of distros come with it as a primary display server.

One of the features being worked on for Wayland is multi-touch, and new implementations have just been added to support proper multi-touch gestures. Specific mousing gestures it now supports include: two and three finger tapping, two-finger scrolling, and drag-n-drop on clickpads. Clickpads are still being worked on, with plans to include other, obscure input methods via libinput.

You can read the full set of patches to the latest version of Wayland from the mailing list.
