Ubuntu One drops Facebook Contact Sync

by Rob Zwetsloot

Although syncing of Facebook contacts is gone, pre-synced contacts will still exist as Ubuntu One loses more unpopular features

The developers over at Ubuntu One have today announced tat they are removing Facebook contacts import and sync as an option from the dashboard. Don’t worry if you’ve been using it though – while you won’t be able to sync new details to any existing contacts, you will be able to edit or delete them.

On the U1 blog, they explained the changes are part of the move to a new data sync infrastructure, in the process turning off services that relied on the old one that weren’t getting much use or giving much value. Apparently the Facebook contacts sync feature is the latest to get the chop.

It’s not the end though of this kind of feature in the contacts service, as the U1 dev team are currently looking for people to contribute the to their new contacts service, a priority in the move. Check out the blog post if you want to find out more on how you can join.
