Second One Laptop Per Child’s XO Touch touchscreen finalized

by Rob Zwetsloot

The OLPC XO Touch tablet will be getting Neonode touchscreens, as the next model makes the leap to laptop and tablet hybrid

Shown at CES, the next OLPC product will include a touch screen, and it’s been revealed that Neonode will be supplying the touch screen for the XO Touch when it is finally released. The screen will be a 7.5”, multitouch display that is apparently glare resistant and readable under direct sunlight.

“Neonode are energy-conscious,” explained the OLPC team on their blog. “Thanks to their history of work with mobile devices, and have features such as gesture-activated wakeup that will help the XO remain the lowest-power laptop around. Neonode is also proud of their screen’s low-latency pen or brush sensors, and ability to sense proximity, pressure, and depth and measure object-size.”

There’s no current release date on the XO-3 (or is it XO-4 now?), but the solar powered tablet’s predecessor is still available
