Q.bo available for pre-order, the open source robot due out this year

by Rob Zwetsloot

TheCorpora has opened pre-orders for the Q.bo, the completely open source robot. Due out at the end of the year, there are several versions available for different enthusiasts

Q.bo is an awesome project by TheCorpora to build and sell an open source robot, both open hardware and open software. Pre-orders have finally started for the robot, available in kits to build yourself, or as pre-built versions with varying levels of power and sensors.

The pre-builts Q.bo’s are run on Intel architecture, being powered by a Mini-ITX board connecting to several open source Q.boards. The two different versions will run on an Intel Atom or Core i3. Q.bo has 2 webcam eyes on it’s head, and various microphones and other sensors to allow it to interact with its surroundings. It can even connect to Wifi networks and read you Wikipedia pages with its text-to-speech functions.

The three packages are currently on sale for the first 1000 purchases, with the build kit at 500 Euros ($660, £410), and the pre-built versions at 1700 Euros ($2250, £1400) and 2300 Euros ($3050, £1900). The Q.bo is out at the end of this year.
