OpenMandriva Beta out now

Posted by Rob Zwetsloot

The first beta of the upcoming OpenMandriva 2014 has been released, improving on the alpha and on course for release in two month’s time

The OpenMandriva project is an interesting one: taking a fork of Mandriva known as ROSA and integrating it back in as a Mandriva distro, it includes a lot of the original tools from Mandriva in the process. The first release – OpenMandriva 2013.0 – was released last year to little fanfare, however there’s a bit more interest in the 2014.0 version of the distro out in April.

As part of the development cycle, it’s finally left alpha and 2014.0 beta is now here. If you had been using the Alpha some of the important updates include fixing LibreOffice, upgrading the kernel and updating to the latest version of KDE among other things.

The project is slightly reminiscent of Mageia, hoping to capture the spirit of Mandrake before the recent mergers and more business focused nature of the original distro. You can test out the beta by grabbing the ISO from the OpenMandriva website.
