Linus Torvalds nominated for Millennium Technology Prize
The prestigious Millennium Technology Prize has selected Linus Torvalds as a laureate, a front-runner for the bi-yearly award for important innovations in tech
Linus Torvalds creation of the Linux kernel has earned him his status of high regard among the tech community, but now an officially body wish to award him for his work on the kernel, and how it helped advance free open source software. The highly esteemed Millennium Technology Prize has whittled down the nominees to laureates, with Torvalds making the cut.
The bi-yearly award recognizes excellence in innovations that improve the quality of life in both technology and science, and has previously been given to Sir Tim Berners-Lee for his invention of the world wide web.
The winner will be awarded the Millennium Technology Prize on 13th June 2012 by the President of Finland. Stay tuned to Linux User & Developer for news on who will receive it.
