Elementary OS Freya beta out now

by Rob Zwetsloot

The beta release of third elementary OS out now and is recommended mainly for developers and testers. It includes updates to drivers and the Linux kernel along with GTK 3.12

It’s been a while since we last talked about elementary OS – the design-focused distro is a great project that we don’t hesitate to recommend to novices and Linux veterans alike. The next version, Freya, is currently in development and the first beta for it has been released for use.

The beta Elementary OS Freya has a general selection of hardware driver and software updates, most notably an update to GTK 3.12 over Ubuntu’s outdated 3.10 in the repos. There’s also a custom online account manager called Pantheon which is supposedly superior to both Ubuntu and GNOME offerings, along with system search improvements and aesthetic upgrades.

You can grab the latest beta and find more details about it from the elementary OS blog. They also want your help testing it to make sure it’s the very best product they can release when the time comes.
