Dell teams up with Canonical to put OpenStack in the cloud

by Rob Zwetsloot

OpenStack-Powered Cloud Solutions with Ubuntu are to be offered by Dell to UK, German, and Chinese companies

During World Hosting Day in Germany today it was revealed that Canonical has struck up a partnership with Dell to start delivering, and supporting, OpenStack Clouds for businesses in the UK, Germany, and China. The move is related to the upcoming 12.04 release Ubuntu, which in itself is tied to the release of OpenStack Essex.

“We know that when you’re building private clouds, you want access to a full feature set and the confidence that vendor support provides.” posted Martin Stadtler, Director of Global Support and Services, on the Canonical blog, “With Dell’s OpenStack-Powered Cloud Solution, users of Ubuntu Server 12.04 Long Term Support (LTS) will be able to take advantage of the cost savings and flexibility of the open-source cloud, without the risk.”

There’s more information available about the deals on the Canonical and Dell websites. Ubuntu 12.04 is still on track for release towards the end of April, and you can read our extensive breakdown of the new OS in the upcoming Linux User & Developer 112, available 12th April 2012.
