Cinnamon 2.0 out now!
The next step in Linux Mint is out now, although be careful while using it
So, wow, we managed to miss this over the weekend, but Linux Mint’s premier desktop environment Cinnamon has been updated to the fabled 2.0 version – the biggest leap for Cinnamon ever as it leaves behind GNOME to become a completely independent desktop environment in time for Linux Mint 16.
We reported on this coming change earlier in the year in an exclusive interview we had with project lead Clement Lefebvre and the rest of his team. Lefebvre goes into more detail in his blog post about Cinnamon 2.0 on the changes and what it means, but does state that people should be a bit wary as it’s only just been released.
Ubuntu 13.10 is out in two days, the base for Linux Mint 16, and it will be an exciting month or two for Linux distros.
