The month of June saw the Android operating get a further boost in the form of the Hero, the latest handset from Smartphone doyens HTC.

It’s certainly better looking than the T-Mobile G1 and while this isn’t difficult in itself the real beauty of the new release lies under the hood. The Hero comes with the new Sense UI, a widget based interface that allows users to put what they deem to be important information right up front on the home screen where they need it. There’s also a handy Scenes feature that allows you to switch this info between business and weekend modes. Contacts in Sense UI shows all the usual info along with all the chat and interactions that users have had on social networking sites including Facebook, Flickr, YouTube and Twitter.
Hardware-wise, the unit is a bit more svelte at 112 mm tall by 56 mm wide and 13mm thick, it features a 3.2 inch HVGA touch screen with and antifingerprint screen coating. The Hero will be available in Europe in July but the US will have to wait until later in the year to get hold of attractive hardware platform for the Android operating system.
