Publish and manage content with DokuWiki
This tutorial will help you to get started with DokuWiki and show you how to extend its functionality with plug-ins…
25 Track visitor stats
The Statistics plug-in allows you to collect and analyse data about your visitors. Using the plug-in, you can keep tabs on the number of visitors, identify the most popular pages in your wiki, track referring websites, and much more.
26 Install Statistics plug-in
This plug-in stores the collected data in a MySQL database, so you have to create a separate database for use with the plug-in and populate it with the required tables. The plug-in comes with the handy db.sql SQL script which simplifies the process of setting up the database and tables. Use your MySQL client (eg phpMyAdmin) to run the supplied SQL script to create the tables.
27 Install Statistics plug-in (continued)
Use the Plugin Manager to install the plug-in. Then switch to the Configuration Settings page and scroll down to the Statistics Plugin Settings section. Provide the required database connection settings and press Save. You can then access the Statistics data by pressing the Admin button and clicking on the Access Statistics link.
28 View Statistics data
The Dashboard provides a comprehensive overview of key data such as the number of page views and visits (presented as a bar chart), a list of the most popular pages, a list of the newest incoming links, and top search phrases.
29 View Statistics data (continued)
Other sections of the Statistics interface provide information about search phrases, referring websites, browsers, operating systems, screen resolutions and other useful information about your visitors.
30 Sync two wikis with Sync plug-in
The Sync plug-in is designed to sync data between two DokuWiki installations, which can come in handy in many situations. You can, for example, edit and modify pages in the wiki installed on your laptop offline and then sync changes back to the ‘live’ wiki running on your web server.
31 Configure Sync plugin
In the target wiki (the wiki running on the Web server), enable the XML-PRC interface and install the Sync plugin in the source wiki (the offline wiki on your local machine). In the source wiki, go to Admin -> Synchronize Wikis and create a new synchronisation profile.
32 Sync the source and the target wikis
Select the created profile and press the Start Synchronization button. You should then see a list of all modified pages. Use the Diff link next to each page to view differences between source and target pages. You can also specify sync action for each page, including Push Local Revision To Remote Wiki, Skip This Page, and Delete Local Revision.
33 Check out other plug-ins
DokuWiki’s plug-in repository features hundreds of nifty plug-ins that can help you to extend DokuWiki’s functionality even further. Point your browser to www.dokuwiki.org/plugins to find plug-ins you like.
